Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week Billboard taps chart-topping artists and taste-makers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. We give the artists free reign to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
Country music seems to have a presence at most summertime parties, and someone who you might hear blasting through the speakers this summer is rising country star Jillian Jacqueline. The 30-year-old was just announced as support for Kip Moore‘s After The Sunburn Tour this fall, but first she’ll take the stage at Faster Horses Country Music Festival in Brooklyn, Michigan, this weekend. The fest is often dubbed the “party of the summer,” so it would only make sense that Jacqueline opted to make her Takeover Tuesday turn all about summer jams.
Unsurprisingly, Jacqueline’s summer playlist has many ties to Nashville, with most tracks serving as an ideal soundtrack for opening a cold beer or driving down the highway with the windows down. She shouts out Dan + Shay‘s sensual cut from their recently released self-titled LP called “All To Myself” — which Jacqueline sees as “the perfect summer night love song” — as well as newer artists who are bringing the warm-weather vibes. Like Walker Hayes’ “Dollar Store,” for instance, which she calls “the perfect song for drinking a Mexican beer on the beach.”
Jacqueline also draws inspiration from timeless tracks she grew up listening to, including “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty, whom Jacqueline describes as “one of the most important and influential artists for me.” Don Henley‘s classic “The Boys of Summer” also made the list, particularly because it’s a must-have for Jacqueline no matter where she is: “One of my go-to karaoke songs and the No. 1 song I will belt in the car, as loud as I can — by myself.”
The Pennsylvania native will be playing her own songs from her Side A EP at Faster Horses and on the road this fall. But when Jacqueline is not performing and the sun is shining, you can bet she’s jamming out to these tracks.
