NASHVILLE, TENN. – With “a style governed by a controlled sound and fury” (The Tennessean), Big Loud Records’ Alabama-born country crooner Kashus Culpepper returns today with third release, “Out Of My Mind,” available now here.
“Out Of My Mind” holds a song within a song, written by Culpepper with his producer Brian Elmquist (The Lone Bellow). Diving into Culpepper’s inner world headfirst, the sludgy, soulful thump explores the push-and-pull aftermath of a tormenting heartbreak.
A break within the four-minute odyssey enlivens things, starring plucking banjo and an optimistic plunk, painting details with hope of recovery and a group-sing backdrop, just to plummet back into the grimy, swamp-tinged swagger of the song’s start. “Out Of My Mind” doubles down on why Culpepper “towers in a lengthy list of artists finding enduring success with sounds expanding beyond the boundaries of mainstream country” (Billboard).
“Out of My Mind is one of the first songs I ever wrote – it’s evolved over the past year and I’m so excited for people to hear it,” Culpepper shares.

Fresh off his first-ever plays at Nashville’s AmericanaFest, Culpepper’s headlining Howlin’ Under The Harvest Moon Tour drives on this weekend with stops in North Carolina, Ohio, and Washington D.C., before finishing the run with a knockout one two punch – a hometown show at Saturn in Birmingham, Ala. on Oct. 11, and his first-ever Nashville headliner at The Basement East on Oct. 12.
“It’s been so cool to meet the people who have found me online in-person in all these amazing cities,” Culpepper adds. “I’m excited to go back home and play my first headline show in Nashville. It means the world.”

Alabama-born country crooner Kashus Culpepper encompasses the sound of the South.
