NASHVILLE, TENN. – Charles Wesley Godwin is getting ready to end 2023 on a high note. The West Virginian singer and songwriter, who signed with Big Loud Records back in March, has reached some pretty impressive heights as an independent artist. Nearly 100 million streams worldwide according to Nielsen (94 million and counting), Godwin has developed a rabid fan base that now sees him regularly sell out 1,000-2,000 capacity venues across the U.S.

Godwin and his seven-piece band, the Allegheny High, are electric live, crafting a sound that pulls from musical heroes like Bruce Springsteen, the Avett BrothersDoc Watson, and Kris Kristofferson. A new mini-doc, Charles Wesley Godwin &the Allegheny High – Live at Stage AE, depicts a raucous sold-out show in Pittsburgh (a hometown show for members of the Allegheny High). A microcosm of Godwin’s hard-earned success, the Stage AE show was originally scheduled for the 400 cap Thunderbird Music Hall, but demand jumped it up to 2,300 cap Stage AE. The doc also gives some candid insights into Godwin as an artist and a human being.

Next month, Godwin will be back out on the road opening for close friend and musical compatriot Zach Bryan on Bryan’s sold-out arena tour. In September, Godwin heads out on his own Fall headline tour, and will take part in the Healing Appalachia benefit concert in Lewisburg, WV. Joining a line-up that includes Tyler Childers, Marcus King, Trey Anastasio and others, Healing Appalachia will raise funds for Hope in the Hills, which helps support recovery efforts around central Appalachia. Tickets for Godwin’s first headline show at the historic Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX went on sale last Friday and sold out in 20 minutes, so a second show was added which goes on sale today.

ABOUT CHARLES WESLEY GODWIN

A native of West Virginia, Charles Wesley Godwin makes cinematic country-folk that’s as gorgeous and ruggedly raw as his homeland. It’s Appalachian Americana, rooted in Godwin’s sharp songwriting and backwoods baritone. With 2021’s How the Mighty Fall, he trades the autobiographical lyrics that filled Seneca — his acclaimed debut, released in 2019 and celebrated by everyone from Rolling Stone to NPR‘s Mountain Stage — for a collection of character-driven songs about mortality, hope, and regret. The success of How the Mighty Fall led to a year of touring with GRAMMY-nominated breakout Zach Bryan, where the two quickly formed a close friendship. The result was a number of collaborations, including standout duet “Jamie,” and two features on Bryan’s live album. Godwin ended 2022 with a string of sold-out headlining shows, spurring a wave of touring momentum moving into 2023, with notable sellouts at venues like Stage AE in Pittsburgh, Penn., and The Bluestone in Columbus, Ohio. He’s performed at festivals like Two Step Inn, Railbird, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Farewell Fest, and more this year, and will continue touring with Bryan, and Cody Jinks.
