“Reasons” singer-songwriter gets sassy with latest offering

Jillian Jacqueline appears in the colorful video for her song “Bleachers.”

Jillian Jacqueline may not have a full-length album to her name just yet, but the Pennsylvania native has produced an impressive – and varied – number of songs to date. Her latest, the pep rally-ready “Bleachers,” was released Friday with an accompanying video.

With its chant-ready chorus and drum line snare, “Bleachers” looks well outside of the country genre for comparisons, most notably Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.” When comparisons come, Jacqueline fits nicely with the next wave of modern pop-country women currently led by Maren Morris and Kelsea Ballerini.

“Without them doing what they’ve done in the last few years, I would not be here right now, I don’t think,” Jacqueline told Rolling Stone Country in May. “When anybody does it their own way, there’s going to be a little bit of a ‘Are we ready for this?’ But those girls just kept going, and it works. It’s amazing to see.”

“Bleachers” was written by Jacqueline with Nashville indie-folk songwriter Trent Dabbs and Tofer Brown. Labeled one of Rolling Stone Country’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” in 2016, Jacqueline is expected to release her debut LP later this year.
