PROLIFIC ARTIST-WRITER ZANDI HOLUP RELEASES OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR “GAS STATION FLOWERS”

CO-DIRECTED BY AND STARRING HOLUP

DEBUT ALBUM WILDFLOWER OUT NOW

NASHVILLE, TENN. – In August prolific artist-writer Zandi Holup released her debut album Wildflower – a revelatory body of work born from embracing her singular eccentricity. Now she releases an official music video for the album’s unforgettable “Gas Station Flowers.” With a passion for visual artistry and cinematography, Holup co-directed and stars in the video. Watch it here

“I poured my blood, sweat and tears into this piece, quite literally,” Holup shares. “It’s woven from fragments of my own story and the stories of others who’ve lived and felt deeply. I’ve always believed that film and music, while powerful on their own, become something explosive when intertwined. This project is meant to stir something visceral, it’s not meant to be comfortable, because comfort rarely provokes thought.”

The visceral video reflects the honesty and vulnerability that are pillars of Holup’s artistry. It’s her belief that art can be an effective mirror to life and can assist people in facing difficult emotions. The song itself was Holup’s first out via Big Loud Records as it resonated heavily with a grassroots following online. Country Central described the poignant song as “a delicate plea” while The Tennessean noted Holup’s “Joan Baez-esque vibrato” in the vocal delivery.

Aptly American Songwriter characterized Holup’s debut Wildflower as being “packed with stark truths and deep emotions wrapped in poetry.” Over the course of the work’s eleven tracks Holup embeds her songwriting with a lovely entangling of poetry, confession and fable-like narrative. When it came time to create Wildflower, she joined forces with producer Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Wyatt Flores) and spent a month recording at Bear Creek Studios in the woods of northwest Washington.

Not only a prolific writer but also performer, the Pennsylvania-born, Nashville-based artist has shared the stage with Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Jamey Johnson, Wyatt Flores, 49 Winchester, Midland and more. For more information visit zandiholupmusic.com.

ABOUT ZANDI HOLUP

Singer/songwriter Zandi Holup has the kind of voice that instantly cuts to the heart’s deepest corners: enchanting, enigmatic, profoundly world-weary but radiant with raw feeling. After building grassroots following by sharing her demos and song fragments online, Holup landed a deal with Big Loud Records and set to work on her debut album, Wildflower: a revelatory body of work born from embracing her singular eccentricity, ultimately bringing an incandescent beauty to the most painful of experiences. Holup joined forces with producer Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Wyatt Flores) on the record, captured during a month recording at Bear Creek Studios in the woods of northwest Washington. Cut from the same cloth as legendary folk singer-songwriters like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, Holup’s raw brand of original folk country flourishes through unfiltered storytelling reminiscent of Dolly Parton and emphasized by her emotive vocals. A mesmerizing performer, Holup has opened for the likes of country legend and Grand Ole Opry member Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Midland and more. “It’s almost like my voice is the embodiment of who I am as a person, and when I sing, I feel like it’s my soul coming out,” Holup shares.
