NASHVILLE, TENN. – Acclaimed singer/songwriter Maggie Rose has shared her empowering new single, Underestimate Me.” The galvanizing anthem, delivered with an assured confidence, is the launching pad for an exciting new chapter in Rose’s musical journey, and her first release with her new label partner, independent powerhouse Big Loud. On Oct. 29, she joins St. Paul & The Broken Bones for an extensive fall theater tour (see dates below).

Rolling Stone called Maggie a “powerful and versatile vocalist,” which is fully evident on “Underestimate Me.” She co-wrote the track with Chris Gelbuda (Meghan Trainor) and Henry Brill (Joy Oladokun), with production by the GRAMMY-Award winning Ben Tanner, who mixed it with GRAMMY-nominated Bobby Holland who engineered. Notable players on “Underestimate Me”include two members of Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit, guitarist Sadler Vaden and drummer Chad Gamble, keyboardist Peter Levin (Amanda Shires, Gregg Allman), keyboardist Kaitlyn Conner and guitarist Kyle Lewis from Maggie’s own band, and bassist Zac Cockrell from Alabama Shakes.

“Underestimate Me” is soaked in a swampy, bluesy mojo that gathers steam as the song progresses. By the end the whole band is throwing around anything that isn’t nailed to the floor. Rose comes on with sassy grit and cool fury, and as she notes, the lyrics share a through line with her podcast Salute the Songbird with Maggie Rose: “I always ask women, ‘What’s your superpower?’ Many of them say that they feel being underestimated is their superpower, because they just blow people’s expectations out of the water.  It’s a song for people to wake up and brush their teeth to in the morning when they’re trying to gas themselves up for a good day.”

The music video was shot in Rose’s homebase of Nashville, Tenn. and directed by Noah Tidmore. The vibrant clip sees Rose driving through town intercut with a rooftop performance – all capturing the infectious swagger of the song. Watch it here.

Maggie Rose has been hailed for her passionate individualism and influences spanning rock, soul, Americana, folk and funk. Her previous lauded studio albums were embraced by the likes of Rolling Stone who declared she’s a “star” andNPR Musicwho called her a “multi-genre powerhouse,” among others.  A a respected fixture of the Nashville community (she was recently elected Governor of the Recording Academy’s Nashville Chapter and has played the iconic Grand Ole Opry almost 100 times), she has carved out a unique path for herself, refusing to be pigeonholed in any one genre. Maggie comfortably straddles different worlds as evidenced by her dynamic performances at such varied festivals as Austin City Limits,Bonnaroo, andNewport Folk Fest. A true road warrior, she has shared the stage with an impressive array of artists including Kelly Clarkson, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Heart, Joan Jett, Eric Church, Gov’t Mule, The Mavericks, Fitz & The Tantrums, and The Revivalists to name a few Rose is readying some of her most powerful music to date, with more to follow in the coming weeks.
