Florida Georgia Line‘s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley’s 2015 was on fire, but 2016 is off to an equally hot start.
The duo saw success with three chart topping singles they had a hand in writing last year, including Cole Swindell‘s “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight,” Jason Aldean‘s “Burnin’ It Down” and their own “Sun Daze.” And on Feb. 3, Hubbard and Kelley were honored with CMA Triple Play Awards at the 7th Annual CMA Songwriters’ luncheon. The award is given to songwriters who write three chart-topping hits within the span of 12 months.
“It’s a true honor as an artist to be a Triple Play winner, to be recognized as a songwriter and to do what I moved to Nashville to do,” Hubbard says of the achievement. “My dreams keep coming true every day.”
Kelley wasn’t in attendance, but shared his appreciation for the honor in a press release and stated that creating music is his passion.
“To be able to sit down and write a song and then either perform it myself or have another great artist perform it, well, it’s really its own reward,” Kelley adds. “Receiving a recognition like this is really the icing on the cake, and I’m so grateful.”
A member of Florida Georgia Line’s team, Seth England (from their publisher Big Loud Mountain), recalls first meeting Hubbard and Kelley in 2011 as they were aspiring to be songwriters.
“From day one we knew they had the ability to write big songs for years to come,” England reveals. “Knowing them as well as we do, this CMA Triple Play Award means as much to them as anything they’ve ever received. Of course they love writing songs for FGL, but to have their peers record songs they’ve written is a major accomplishment to them and this year will be one they remember forever.”
Florida Georgia Line will continue to bring their hits on the road this year with their newly announced Dig Your Roots Tour, which begins in March.
