SONG SET FOR FORTHCOMING PROJECT PRODUCED BY RYAN HADLOCK (ZACH BRYAN, BRANDI CARLILE, THE LUMINEERS, WYATT FLORES)
GARNERS MILLIONS OF VIEWS ACROSS SOCIAL TEASES
NASHVILLE, TENN. – Today prolific artist-writer Zandi Holup releases the sublimely devastating “Mountain Man,” following two initial offerings: “Dirty Wings” and “Gas Station Flowers.” Like those songs, “Mountain Man” is a window into the sonic identity of her forthcoming project produced by Ryan Hadlock (Zach Bryan, Brandi Carlile, The Lumineers, Wyatt Flores).
“’Mountain Man’ is a song where an artistic picture of a man is painted making him a masterpiece, and then it is slashed by the heartbreak that he will never truly be with you,” shares Holup. “Much of my music is cathartic rather than hopeful, but I also believe hope is found in catharsis.”
On the new song Holup offers up a pedal-steel-laced portrait of loving someone entirely out of reach, delivering a powerful vocal performance that telegraphs compassion, desperation, and wide-eyed wonder all in the same breath. Recorded at Bear Creek Studios in northwest Washington during a sequestered creative stint, “Mountain Man” was written by Holup and Daniel Leathersitch. Evocative vocals and rich imagery portrait a clear visual:
He smells of woodsmoke and needles of pine
There’s dirt on those hands that’ll hold me all night
I run my cold fingers slow through his beard
And I wonder if while he’s dreaming he hears
The wolf crying at that yellow moon
‘Cause if he does he’ll be leaving me soon
Listen to “Mountain Man” here.
Not only a prolific writer but also performer, the Pennsylvania-born, Nashville-based artist has shared the stage with Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Jamey Johnson, Wyatt Flores, 49 Winchester, Midland and more. Holup has upcoming festival billings at Under the Big Sky Festival and WE Fest 2025. For more information visit zandiholupmusic.com.
ABOUT ZANDI HOLUP
Evocative artist-writer Zandi Holup is a wildflower: unique, free as the wind, and blossoming in Music City. Born in Pennsylvania, she drifted from city to city until she found her home in Nashville. Cut from the same cloth as legendary folk singer-songwriters like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell, Holup’s raw brand of original folk country flourishes through unfiltered storytelling reminiscent of Dolly Parton and emphasized by her emotive vocals. A grassroots following placed her on the map as snippets of demos and unreleased songs resonated across social media in increasing numbers. Holup has shared the stage with Steve Earle, Amanda Shires, Jamey Johnson, Wyatt Flores, 49 Winchester and more. Inking a publishing deal with Arthouse Entertainment and TurnTable Music in partnership with Universal Music Publishing, she signed a record deal with Big Loud Records in 2023. Her first three releases on the label, “Gas Station Flowers,” “Dirty Wings” and “Mountain Man” are available now.
