NASHVILLE, TENN. – Today Deville Records’ singer-songwriter Rhys Rutherford drops cleverly-penned “Turning Into Us.” The new tune about an unexpected budding romance adds to his growing catalog of “storytelling brilliance” (All Country News). This weekend, Rutherford will make his Tortuga Music Festival debut in Ft. Lauderdale Beach, Florida.

“I’ve always loved this song,” Rutherford shares. “I think it was 2019 and I had been trying to get ERNEST, my dad and me in a room for months. I hadn’t written with either of them yet at that time. When we finally made it happen, this song happened. The record turned out even better than I imagined when we wrote it and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.”

With storytelling in his lineage, Rhys soaked up the wisdom and sound of chart-topping contemporary country from his father, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Rivers Rutherford. The pair wrote the song with ERNEST, penning:

It’s just me and you babe

In this bar and we ain’t even buzzed

Me and you babe

Lookin’ like we might be turning into us

Rutherford recently collaborated with labelmate Lauren Watkins for slow burning “Problem For Tomorrow.” The pair trade verses on the duet showcasing their complementary honeyed vocals, with Country Central noting: “the story’s melody and lyrical narration unite in a beautifully choreographed interplay.” Rhys’ first song of the year, “Long Way,” highlights his lyrical relatability and smooth vocals.

Through the month of April, Rutherford will support friend and mentor ERNEST on his Live From The South Tour, plus a stop at Summerfest in June. For more information or tickets, please visit rhysrutherford.com.

ABOUT RHYS RUTHERFORD

With the killer instincts of a Music City hitmaker, Rhys Rutherford was raised on songs – and is now putting his education to work. Signed to ERN’s Cadillac Music / DeVille Records and with a commanding baritone vocal, the emerging country songwriter’s first batch of tunes were just beginning to land, when provocateur (and benevolent bossman) ERNEST encouraged him to pursue an artistic career. “His voice is too good to just give away songs,” ERN says. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, the student of songwriting masters learned at the foot of his father – Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Rivers Rutherford – soaking up the wisdom and sound of chart-topping contemporary country. Matching that to a penchant for classic rock, grunge and hip hop, he wrote his first song at 16 – and after coming home from a short stint at Ole Miss, began using that open-minded fusion of styles for real. Years of under-the-radar work led to a publishing deal with ERN’s Cadillac Music in 2023, and then early cuts like Bailey Zimmerman’s “Is This Really Over?,” ERNEST’s “Hangin’ On (feat. Morgan Wallen),” George Pippen’s “Rest of Our Life” and more. Rutherford is currently supporting ERNEST on his Live From The South Tour.
